John and Connie Stafford, both Iowa natives, have long admired Summit County, skiing Breckenridge for the first time over 40 years ago. They met in a business class at Iowa State University where John received his Bachelor of Science degree in transportation and accounting in 1979. He earned an MBA degree from the University of Minnesota in 1983.
John spent his entire career in financial operations with General Mills, a global consumer foods company headquartered in Minneapolis. He held numerous operating roles in domestic finance, marketing, and sales, as well as corporate leadership roles in recruiting, planning, supply chain and internal audit. John has significant international experience, including regional chief financial officer roles based in Toronto and The Hague. The last 10 years of his career were focused on worldwide implementation of standardized information systems and business processes. John retired in 2010 as VP, Global Business Services.
Having purchased a Breckenridge condo in 2005, their love of the community led to a decision to retire here. They built their home in 2011 and have been permanent residents since. John has served on numerous business organization boards as well as home, condo and lake owners association boards. He is the past chair and current member of the Iowa State College of Business Advisory Board, where he and Connie are actively engaged benefactors. Connie and John are enthusiastic fans of the National Repertory Orchestra as well as donors and volunteers since 2012.
John is a fly fishing and upland bird hunting enthusiast. He and Connie enjoy skiing, hiking, and biking in the Colorado high country. They have two children Sarah (27), a Denver veterinarian, and J T (24), a mechanical engineer in Boulder.
